Tanatos
Inspirations
The design of the book series was inspired by the sticker culture and its different incarnations. I like the anarchist side of this phenomenon, the ambience of eqiuty it creates and its ability to adverise any initiative, brand or event in low-key way.
But there are always to sides to a story. I guess not every place is suitable for stickers. There are few things that make me more angry than visiting bookstore and finding beautiful book covers destroyed with ugly stickers, informing about discounts and promotions.
The idea
Trying to strip them only makes things worse, so I decided that instead of contending with them my design will prepare a space for them. Every book belonging to the series will have black and white abstract drawing in a background and a title in a box that pretends to be a sticker.
This may encourage the reader to attach some new stickers. It might also ease the negative impression she or he may have because of promotion stickers. Now they will somehow become part of a design and will not cover its significant parts.
